THE PEACE TREE
Director: Mitra Sen Inspired by students in the Toronto School district where director Mitra Sen teaches, THE PEACE TREE reflects the unique experiences of children growing up in a multicultural society. In it two young girls, one Muslim and one Christian, dream of celebrating each other’s religious festivals- Christmas and Eid - but are met with resistance from their parents. From their struggle, the Peace Tree is born, a tree illuminated by symbols of many cultures and faiths that reflect the diverse society they live in. The film has won numerous awards including the Liv Ulmann Peace Prize at the Chicago International Children's Film Festival and has triggered the creation of Peace Trees in schools and communities around the world.
