Filmmaker Sanjeev Chatterjee’s work focuses on issues of identity among
people in the Indian diaspora. Since Mahatma Gandhi’s first hand introduction
to racism and injustice as a young lawyer in South Africa, people of
Indian origin have played a significant and historical role in the creation
of the modern South African state. From their imprisonment alongside
Nelson Mandela during the anti apartheid movement to participation in
the new era of democracy, Dirty Laundry introduces viewers to the work
and struggles of the South African Indian community, while providing
a hopeful model for easing religious tensions in India.
