Akshit Kumar’s mesmerizing animation bonVoyage pour monVoyage transcends conventional storytelling to create a visceral experience. Rather than documenting his eight-city Indian exploration through conventional means, Kumar crafts a sensory collage where each destination demands its own visual language. The film pulses between animation styles with hypnotic fluidity, incorporating ambient recorded soundscapes and collected ephemera (pressed flowers, train tickets, sketches) into its aesthetic DNA. Kumar cleverly translates the emotional oscillations of solo travel – euphoria, isolation, wonder, belonging – into visual metaphors that transform into a deeply personal yet universally resonant meditation on how places transform us when we surrender to their rhythms. The film recently earned Kumar the Student Academy Award in the Alternative/Experimental category – a fitting recognition for this vibrant testament to how places reshape us.
