On the hip streets of Brooklyn, Hakim, an old world Syrian baker, desperate to sell his authentic walnut baklava, gets into an awkward rivalry with savvy yet self-satisfied Sakina aka “Laddoo Lady”, who is already a viral hit with the local keto crowd.
NYU grad Maryam Mir directs an endearing Laith Nakli (Ramy) and a chirpy Mahira Kakkar (A Suitable Boy) with a light, sweet-toothed touch, in this utterly charming comedy about the unexpected bonding between immigrants: during turf wars over beloved sweets from old countries.
