Tarsem Singh Dhandwar is known for his visually extravagant Hollywood fare. For the first time in his long film career, he sets the story in his Indian hometown. Pavia Sidhu and Yugum Sood play as the vulnerable star-crossed lovers belonging to different classes of society. As their love story unfolds, it takes a devastating turn when they are unable to escape the familial and societal wrath. Tarsem paints a visceral account of this tragic love story based on true events in 1990’s Punjab. While the Shakespearean influence is evident, Tarsem’s weaving of the Punjabi Sufi folklore into the striking narrative makes this film a standout – with a haunting, chilling finale.
Red carpet and reception start at 6:30 PM, screening starts at 8:00 PM followed by a Q&A with Tarsem Singh.
